Who is behind iekos?

Why is iekos different?

iekos stands for Improving Efficiency using Key Operational Systems. (It is also derivative of my two children’s names), it really embodies what I can achieve as a Business Consultant. I work with businesses across Yorkshire and the Midlands to help owners improve, change, and grow.

Background

I started my first business, Crystal Clean Service when I was 18 from a desk in the corner of my bedroom. 14 years on and my cleaning business is now one of the leading commercial cleaning companies in South Yorkshire and it continues to grow. The day-to-day business is run by a hugely dedicated management team and over 100 employees, I now undertake an Executive Role in the business helping to steer change and growth and enjoy it more than ever.

6 years ago, I was asked to help a Recruitment business that was struggling to move forward. Using my experience, I created new systems and processes across all departments of the business which as a result had a huge impact on both the productivity and profitability of the business.. I still work in a Non-Executive role with them today.

In 2017 I began working with a number of different businesses within the Sheffield City Region on a consultative basis and I found a passion for helping them to improve and grow their business, this was my inspiration to begin iekos. So I am not a typical “business coach” I am a business owner, one who has built grown and exited a business as well as helped and supported many others. During my time in business I have always been a member of the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber and in 2021 I was appointed as a Non Executive Board Member where I am able to offer more support to other members.

I have experienced a lot in my years and I have a very practical approach to business and to solving problems. I am very passionate and actively work to support and help my clients achieve their goals and to get their business working for them, just like I did with my own.

Business Consultants are not all the same and they are not right for every business. No one person can walk into a business wave their magic wand and make things instantly better but a professional with real experience will be able to help guide you to resolve issues and grow your business. A consultant give you tools to work with a clear set of actions to complete.

If you are a restaurant owner you don’t just have to work with other restaurant owners. Whilst there are obvious benefits to working with the those who have first-hand knowledge of your industry, there are also many transferable experiences that would be beneficial to your business. Successful systems, processes, recruitment strategy, turn around plans etc that would be insightful and helpful across many sectors. Think about where you are struggling and then find a consultant that is best suited to the problem.

This is a really common problem. Business owners can be so engrossed in the day to day running of the business that it can be difficult ‘to see the wood from the trees’ as they say. An experienced business consultant will be able to work through a GAP analysis with you so that you are able to realistically identify real problems.

Firstly, don’t disregard those with a degree, if you do not have a degree and you run a CNC factory for example, then someone with a Metallurgy degree would undoubtedly have some relevant knowledge to your business. However, also see if there is relevant business experience and whether they can back up their advice with a proven track record. Take some time and research the Business Consultants background before deciding to work with them.

OK, we’ve all seen the ads, run a 6 figure some business on your own within 1 year. Sign up now only £250 a month. There is usually a video testimonial of a very successful business owner who used the programme or coach to make them massively successful. Now, I am not saying that this is false, but you need to be realistic about what a £250 a month investment can really achieve and how tailored will the steps be. For every success story there a multiple more stories of those who tried and failed so don’t be fooled by the quick win or the golden ticket idea.

Business Consultants will show you how to make the changes, but they can’t force you to make them, a consultant is there to work with you

This is more of a two-pronged approach, first the consultancy approach to figure out the solution and then an ‘Active Partner’ to implement and oversee the change. When I say partner, I don’t use this term as someone who takes a share in your business but someone who will work with you in your business to deliver the change, think of an outsourced MD with you being the CEO. I work with several clients like this and have long term relationships as an Active Partner, Non-Executive and an Executive Board Member.

I am motivated to help others achieve success, by helping you to grow your business I am growing mine.

Having worked with several SME’s I understand the strains business owners face – many of which I experienced myself in the early days. The pressure to do everything yourself is really straining and can be the quickest way to lose the passion for your business. I help you to understand your key business strengths and how to capitalise on them, looking at what can be enhanced and what needs to change.

Trying to do everything on your own is just not possible. I’m a big believer in sticking to your strengths and getting other people in to do the things you aren’t as good at. There is an amazing resource of talented individuals in our area that you can outsource to, so you have the time to take your business to the next step. You will never be able to do everything and the more your take on the less you do well.

Lucinda came to me because she was overwhelmed with her business but she was also juggling a part time job, and a young family . She was so exhausted and frustrated that she lost her passion and as a result of that she was considering closing the business down. While doing a business gap analysis we established that her business was actually very successful and to close down a successful business made no logical sense, so we started to look at areas where we could improve the business and where she could free up her time. She decided that she wanted to have a slight rebrand because her business name wasn’t reflective of her branding and she also went off to set up a new website as well as a new list of more defined products and services to set the right foundations for her growth. We came up with a number of different ways that she could expand her reach into the marketplace to gain more clients so she would continue to grow her business. As a direct result she became so busy that she decided to leave her part time job and focus all of her efforts and energy on building and growing her business. She now has a business that works for her instead of against her and she even has time to spend on some other business interests as well as quality time with her family.
